(19-Aug-14) Team Megaday
Over the years, there have been many kind, generous people in the community that have approached us and asked if they could do something to help raise money for Velindre Cancer Centre with the Megaday team. From running events, to dress down days, to sponsored walks, we are only too happy to help. Hence, we set up Team Megaday. If you would like to get involved, please do get in touch by emailing Mail@megaday.net. We will be happy to discuss your ideas and will send you a sponsors pack and useful information.
Here are members of Team Megaday we would like to thank:
Paul McCarthy sponsored weight loss
Not too happy about his middle aged spread, Paul decided to raise some money for Velindre Cancer Centre though a sponsored weight loss. Since he started, Paul has now lost an incredible two and a half stone (that’s 16kg for the youngsters).
He might have lost a few pounds but in doing so has raised over £500 for Team Megaday that’s another ‘win–win’ situation all-round. Excellent effort Paul – Well done! www.megaday.com/megadayweightloss
Naomi and Emma’s Skydive and acoustic night
Skydiving is definitely not for the feint-hearted, you’ve either got to be extremely brave or equally crazy!
In July, Naomi Higgins and Emma Newton joined up with Team Megaday, and took the plunge when they jumped out of an aeroplane. This followed a very successful acoustic night they organised at the Wheatsheaf in Caerphilly. Their tremendous efforts are on track to raise £2000 for Megaday - many thanks to them from all at Megaday.
2014 MegaRide Cardiff to Tenby
In April, Megaday supporters and cyclists; David Jones, Ian Clarke, Simon Fisher and Lee Croad (support crew) cycled from Cardiff to Tenby for Velindre Cancer Centre because they wanted to help support the great work at Velindre. A gruelling 100miles later they raised almost £1500. A fantastic effort and well deserving of praise - Well Done Boys! www.justgiving.com/megadayride
Megaday 20 Run
To celebrate the 20th anniversay of Megaday people will be running the 20 miles from Caerphilly to the Millenium Stadium and back using the Taff Trail route. To support the runners go to www.justgiving.com/megaday20
Cardiff Half Marathon Runners
In October, several Megaday organisers and good friends will also be running the Cardiff half marathon in aid of the Velindre Cancer Centre.
People have being raising awareness of Megaday and Velindre Cancer Centre by taking a selfie doing the V for Victory gesture and nominating friends to do the same - text MEGA86 £ TO 70070 www.justgiving.com/megadayselfie
(18 Aug 14) Megaday on Tour
Megaday went on tour on the weekend of 8th-9th August. Starting on the Friday night, the Love Handles entertained a full to the rafters Cwrt Rawlin, Caerphilly. It was a great opportunity for regulars to be introduced to the band and also for organisers to raise awareness and remind people of Megaday and the great work of Velindre Cancer Centre.
Many thanks to Adele and the staff at Cwrt Rawlin for hosting Megaday and to all who supported the event.
The tour continued on Saturday at New Tredegar RFC. Tab 80 headlined with the support of the Alicia and The Pitchforks. The night was in partnership with The Sophie Pearson Fund. The locals are very familiar with the ever popular Tab 80 and are long standing supporters of Megaday. Many thanks, as always to Alyson Hughes, the staff and all who attended a very special night for both charities.

(28 Feb 14) We did it! Megaday 2013 helps hits the £250k Target
Organisers of the Megaday music festival are delighted to announce that last year’s Megaday event beat its target and raised over £20,000 for Velindre Cancer Centre. This means that the total now raised for Velindre by Megaday has smashed through the quarter of a million pound barrier, raising over £252,000.
Megaday organiser, Peter Hopkins said, “We knew we had to raise £17,500 last year to hit our target, so to raise over £20,000 was a huge success. Reaching the £250,000 milestone is a fantastic achievement, everyone involved should be very proud”.
Megaday founder Steve Sullivan said, “The last 19 years have been a glowing tribute to the popularity and spirit of Andrew and Paul, they would be extremely moved to know that so many people have enjoyed raising so much money in their names for such a good cause. We’d like to sincerely thank everyone who has played their part over the years in making it all possible”.
This year’s Megaday will be held on August 25th 2014 and will be the 20th anniversary,
We are already working very hard to make it something special.
