27/28 AUGUST 2016 History Of Megaday

Megaday 2013

Megaday No 19 Venue: Caerphilly RFC – Total Raised £TBC

Twelve great bands played at Megaday 2013. These included four new acts all making their Megaday debut: Set to Stun, Out A Time, Back To Novemberand The Kix, a fantastic three piece, all-girl rock band who had won the Megaday Battle of the Bands competition.Megaday 2013 was headlined by Megaday veterans, The Love Handles.

A brand new feature for 2013 was the Megaday Dance Tent, which ran from 6.30pm to 10.15pm at the far end of the Megaday field. This proved very popular with Megaday revelers, who packed it out and danced late into the night. Local DJs Cliffy and David Jay provided the tunes.

In 2013, “Team Megaday” was launched, which invited people to hold extra fund raising events to boost Megaday’s donation to Velindre. These events included a walk up Pen Y Fan Mountain, Wayne George’s “Megabins”, a 6 a side football competition, a sponsored diet and Megaday runners taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon.

It was also an emotion year for one of Megaday’s founding members, Steve “Suggs” Sullivan who retired as an organiser after 19 years. Steve said ““The last 19 years have been a wonderful experience. I've worked with some truly amazing people and witnessed some heart-warming moments of kindness, dedication and generosity from the good people in our community. I’d like to sincerely thank every single person who has played their part in making Megaday the success that it is today, and wish you all the best for the future. You’ve all done Andrew and Paul proud”.
