Megaday No 17 Venue: Caerphilly RFC – Total Raised £12,579
Megaday 2011 was the 10th anniversary of us losing one of the founding members of Megaday, PG Paul Grahame. In tribute to Paul, his old band, The Tips reformed and were joined on stage by some of Paul’s closest friends and fellow musicians who played Paul’s favourite and most popular songs. The highlight of the night was when Paul’s 11 year old nephew “Callum Grahame” joined the band on stage to play one of Paul’s signature tunes “Shooting Star”. The night finished in an emotional finale with a fireworks display accompanied by a recording of Paul playing Prince’s classic Purple Rain.
In 2011 members of the Megaday team were awarded the Caerphilly Mayor’s Civic award for contribution to the Community. Well done Gethyn, Sean, Martin, Jason, James, Trevor and Gareth. Also, we must mention the great effort by Wayne George (Tom Jones Tribute) who raised over £800 for Velindre in 2011 with his Megabins campaign through his company Wheelie Clean.
We increased the facilities and entertainment for children at Megaday and Peppa Pig made a guest appearance. After the successful of the previous year’s “Dance for Life” event, we decided to bring it to the main Megaday stage on Megaday Saturday. It was headlined by top local DJs Cally and Juice, who put on a fantastic performance.
