27/28 AUGUST 2016 History Of Megaday

Megaday 2010

Megaday No 16 Venue: Caerphilly RFC – Total Raised £16,000

In 2010, Megaday was made an official Ambassador by Velindre Hospital in recognition of its 15 years of contributions to the hospital. On the stage, it was the turn for Jaded to headline Megaday. Jaded first appear at Megaday in the Battle of the Bands competitions and had worked their way up the bill over the years. Megaday Saturday had one of the best original line ups ever with local heros “Attack Attack” and Mike Fantastic (of Britain’s got talent) headlining the night. It was also Obi ptripes (formally the Hustle) farewell gig. Obi Stribes front man, Lewis Fall had been a key Megaday organiser of the years and was instrumental in setting up the Battle of the Bands competitions. We held a "schools" battle of the bands competition this year which was won by Abberation, they were given a slot on the bill and opened the show on Megaday Sunday.

A local runner Martin Davies who had moved away to Kidderminster decided to raise some money for Velindre by cycling and running from his home in Kidderminster to Megaday accompanied by his friend Shaw Pye. They successfully completed the journey by cycling to Merthyr then running from Merthyr to Caerphilly, rising over £1000 foe Velindre. Martin said, “I really wanted to do something as my father Clive was treated at Velindre”.
